America, Did I Deserve this?

Why? Why is it my fault?

I was 11.  I was in 5th grade.  I should’ve been playing outside

Not worrying about men

I was 11 at the pool.  I was with my friends.

You shouldn’t have been able to control me like that.  Touch me like that.

I tried to tell people.  They didn’t believe me. Said I should’ve told him to stop.  I did.

There was a boy in my science class.

He had a girlfriend, but when the teacher wasn’t watching, I was his toy

And just like a child, he would throw me out when he was done.

I told my health teacher.  She taught half our school about rape and sexual harassment

She could help me.  I gave her a name and told her what happened

She told me to talk to someone else

I trusted her and she failed me.  Who else did she fail?

America you're failing all of us

Brock Turner

Its my fault you did it.  It’s not you, it’s me

I went to a party with my little sister.  She made fun of me for wearing a beige cardigan

I drank too much.  And you did it. You raped me.  I was unconscious. But it’s my fault

The nurse had to take pictures of me.  I had pine cones in what clothes I had left.

My body was contaminated.  I hated my body. How can I get rid of it?

The judge gave you 6 months.  He thought it would have a “severe impact” on you.

But what about me.  It had a severe impact on me too.

Trent Mays, 17, who had been a quarterback

Ma’lik Richmond, 16, who had played wide receiver

What about me America

Olivia Benda, 17, wants to be a veterinarian

Another rape victim, another underaged victim

People took pictures and sent them around

Unconscious, naked penetrated “like a dead body”

Semen on my body, but don’t worry it was a consensual act

Don’t worry that I was unconscious, it was a consensual act

Carried by just my ankles and wrists

America what did I do to deserve this

I was at school studying and it happened

I was wearing my favorite jeans and a sweatshirt, I can’t wear them any more

“My life is over. No one is going to want me now”

What about me

What about my life

America you let them do this to me

America I told you what happened

We will make America strong again.

We will make America proud again.

We will make America safe again.

And we will make America great again.

What about Katie Johnson

She was just 13 when you stole her virginity

Rose Mcgowan was only 15

She was left standing on a street corner

Jeffrey Epstein

Harvey Weinstein

Are you making America great again

Are you making America safe again

Safe America

But my heart beats a little faster when I see you

America is safe

But I’m scared in my class

America why did I deserve this
