America The Salad

This is a group poem for four people, each person representing a number. I might add more to it soon :-)

1) On June 21 in UK, two citizens were attacked with acid - scarring their body

2)Just as acid hurts you physically

1)Words can break you mentally

1+2) Until there is no you left entirely

3) On May 26 in Oregon, three men were stabbed as they stood up for racism

4)Because apparently doing the right thing

3)Is actually the wrong thing

3+4) And the good people get punished

1+3) Because we are all supposed to blend in

2+4) But how can we blend in

All) If we were born to stand out?

3) So America can't be a mixing pot

2) Even though it's supposed to be

4) In a mixing pot we're all the same

1) America is one big salad

2)Where Catholics are cucumbers

1)Where Muslims are lettuce

3)Where Hindus are carrots

4)Where Jews are tomatoes

All) And the salad dressing makes us American

1+4) Because in a salad you don't have to hide your true flavors

2+3) Or hide your true colors

1+2+3) In a salad you can show who you are

4)And not be alone
