American Hegemony
America…
We’re the great melting pot
We have every race, ethnicity, and type of person you could imagine
And we accept them all…right?
I’m not racist
I don’t look down upon other races
I don’t even see races
I don’t separate people by their color
I don’t see color
We’re such an accepting society
Because that’s what we are in America
See people say those words and don’t grasp their meaning
They say it and don’t know they are tearing others apart
All they are doing is demeaning
Demeaning a feeling, a heart
Demeaning a person
We have so much diversity
But when did diverse come to mean anyone who’s not white?
How is urban another word for black?
Why does inner city mean Latino?
That’s just a loaded, coded meaning for the minority
Another way to say that you’re not part of the majority
But I accept the minority
I don’t discriminate
I don’t hate
Remember I don’t differentiate people
I don’t see the colors
I don’t see the colors
I don’t see color so I can’t see you
But then I admit you’re of color
And is that defeating my purpose?
My purpose to deny race,
My attempt to equalize
But all I do is categorize
And I put people in groups and make groups of people that I think to be the same
But they are people
And people are individuals
And they are not bound by their race
We’re not bound by race
So we need to see color in order to accept it
We need to see the difference and respect it
See America’s got it backwards
Colorblindness just breaks people into groups
It breaks us into groups that separate
Groups that represent our fate
This is our fate if we don’t break down barriers
We are only setting ourselves up for division
Let’s not divide
Let’s just conquer
Let us conquer the divisions we have created
And realize that we are all related
We all are people
We are all Americans
