American Tragedy

All alone in this crowded place No one understands this tear stained face Can't they see I'm f'in pissed By my tightly formed fist I am so hurt **** everyone tell 'em to kick the dirt I wish everyone would leave me alone Inside I feel the urges to cut They're ever so strong but Tonight I can't use my usual measures I can't do what others see as unsightly pleasures I can't see the blood dripping Or feel my ever so fragile skin ripping I feel the need to do it ever so deep But nothing's said, not a peep For me it's a way out Though most people would sit and pout To me the pain inside I feel Is ever so very real But no one knows or understands me I am nothing other than an American tragedy

This poem is about someone who can be surrounded by so many people but feel completely alone. This person usually uses self-injury as a means of coping but is kept from doing it for fear of hurting others or for fear that others will learn of their "secret life".
