An American War

There’s fire behind you and bombs at your back

Burning bright through the endless night of black

Blood runs red through the dirty water

Drifting away from the endless, brutal slaughter

And you ride on the eagle’s wings

Reveling in the freedom it brings

As it brings you to the break of dawn,

The chains that bind you are finally gone

And you fly on the eagle’s wings

A song of freedom is the tune it sings

As a wave of doves flock to the skies,

Your fears and troubles finally die

And you soar on the eagle’s wings

Below a field of flowers bloom in the spring

As you hold the olive branch in your hands,

You finally discover the peace of the free land

And you glide on the eagle’s wings

On the leaves, the dewdrops cling

As the sun sets from the far side of Earth

You know that this is the place of worth

But then you wake up and open your eyes

You look around and begin to cry

For around you is not peace, but a field of blood

And an endless mass of bodies in mud
