Amid the Blizzard

The sand sweeps through me While weary priers with drier eyes believe they can do the same But there is illusion riddled before them, bred in my skin And though I have this advantage, I tremble in the cold But not out of fear Because here, I am alone I know not what I feel towards these wanderers who live among the ice Lost souls taken by the dastardly chill of this gray slushed snow and whelming vice Cold to the bone, they seek no more substance than they already possess Dressed for a blizzard, never seeking rest They’ve been here so long, thinking this to be all the world for all the fight They believe gray to be white and these dim stars to be light So today, I begin the trudge through the sleet and the sludge To find the foreign footprints, roaming far from what I’ve come to know To prove what I have come to believe is the eve of time, winter surges through me to find A lost and forgotten summer Searching, seeking, though I know not for what Something new for young eyes, new blood Blood running thick for the pursuit, for the dream For the truth, I wonder, could be more than just what I’ve seen And as a blizzard rages on in my being and in the air Deserts live among this world, so my mind dwells in the sand I do not know whether I am lost Or was simply born to travel far I do not know if I am meant to mend Or create something entirely different Though I do know exactly where to go Onward, towards the new horizon Onward, towards the lightest snow
