Anatomically Incorrect
I wish I could be
Your neck
so I could hold your head up
when all you wanted to do
was keep it down.
I wish I were able
to keep your head above water
no matter how high the tide is.
I wish I could make sure
you were always looking forward—
and not down at your feet
because I know
You don’t want to take any more steps.
I wish I could hold your back straight
So you could feel strong
I wish I could be
The reason your head was up high
Even if you were at your lowest.
I wish I were so valuable
that you’d never want to be without me;
that you couldn’t live without me.
I wish that you would die
if I were broken.
I wish you could balance your life on me
and I could hold you up
whenever you were feeling heavy;
we could sway together
and lay together
but I would be nowhere near your heart.
I wish I could be
your neck
because there’s absolutely no doubt
that you’re mine.
