How long would it take

For an anchor to sink?

How long would it take

If I was the anchor?

What if the waves

crashing above

Were the daily struggles 

I was meant to face

What if the sea creatures

swimming around me

Were the family and friends

Who keep me steady

Surely the elements

would have no effect

Surely my problems

wouldn't, also

My own weight 

is enough to bring me down

My own courage

is enough to hold me there

Through homelessness

through college

through leukemia

it is enough

Through it all

I am still anchored
