And

I cried the day my mom came out to me and I felt like my life was broken but I doubt it was as broken as her heart when she saw her daughter cry because she had fallen in love

and all I could see was the way the kids at school would look at me and all I could hear was the shattering of my normalcy and I just wanted to be like everyone else

and a few years later I was at bible study and they were talking about gay marriage and how it's wrong and the bible says so so it must be

and I was confused because how could my mom who loved with her heart and her head and everything in between how could her happiness be wrong

and if I don't agree with that then what else is there in this book I don't agree with and what else is there that I don't know about myself

and a few years after that I was in class and we watched a video that showed Muslim perspectives and the kids in my class got angry about that

and I was confused because what was wrong with hearing Muslim perspectives and I thought we were supposed to know the other side to every story

and I wondered what else I disagreed about with these kids and what else is there that I don't know about myself

and a few years after that I was standing in front of the school board and I'm explaining why this video shouldn't be banned

and my mom and her wife are in the front row and they're standing up to applaud me when i'm done

and then I'm starting to understand who I am and what I care about

and I want equality and for everyone and I care about love and happiness and I think it's really important to be yourself and be accpeted

and I'm not really sure who I am but I'm figuring it out along the way

and maybe I'll never really know

but I'm not too worried
