And I am

The night!

The wind!

It whispers in my ear

I drive way too fast

As it gets louder

And louder

The deep blue moonlight

Washes over me

And I know.

I feel the cold air

Kiss my cheeks and fingertips

And I see

As my feathers begin to rustle

Lifting into the air

And I feel

Free.

I am soaring above the lights

Just below the stars

And I look down

Where everyone tries, plans,

Succeeds, fails,

And I hear

All of the people

Who need me to come home

And I slow

My beating wings as I sail

Closer to the ground

And I stop

Until one day when we can

Both be free

And soar.
