And I Was Home
When they spoke my name
And said that I’d done well
That I had acquitted myself
Honorably to my mission
And spoke highly of me
To those who deigned to listen
I did not swell with pride
At the mention
For far away was he still
The object of my affections
And no closer it seemed
He would come to me
When they whispered silver
Words of my feats
And spoke in hushed tones
Of what a cost it must be
Courage they said it must
Have taken for us all
To Persist and endure
In the Face of such struggle
Honors I once cherished
In my dreams of Valhalla
Did then ring hollow
For still he was away from me
Then his footsteps, softly
His strong arms, holding
His deep eyes, fixed
A slight smile for me
And I was home
