And This Little Fellow

My biggest scar is shaped like Australia

It’s purple and protruding, and sits right beneath my breast

It represents a lot of things for me-

My birth, my strength, my individuality

At first I was worried that cutting that awful piece out would somehow take away my identity

I know it’s silly and dumb-

Still it was something I was born with-

Something I was supposed to keep forever

The stitches healed

The blood clotted

I took a risk and showed a friend.

My body looks like rare meat-

I’m extremely pretty, in a grotesque way

At least I’ll draw an interesting crowd
