AND QUEENSLAND CASTE HER NETS AFAR

And Queensland Caste Her Nets Afar......

In days of past,

When overcast were skies,

Like that of widowed woman

All dressed in black,

As a new dawn comes a ‘beckoning so;

As Sol to the east

Castes a new dawn a stirring,

As Southern Cross, a hiding goes

To rise again in another evening so,

For behind there’s a mariner's friend,

Trailing in the wake,

Olde Albatross a skimming,

A turning,

Rising in the breeze,

Our course is north

For up the coast we sail

For on the morrow,

A new land awaits,

A new founding begins,

Hopes of many;

Encouraged and convicted

By what the agents were a 'spruiking,'

Back there in good Olde Mother England.

For these modest men,

Women and children all a dreaming,

‘Cause down under in this Terra Firma land,’

Now she’ll be home;

For Queensland has caste her nets afar,

For this brand new mob be,

Assisted and un-assisted wanderers from home,

For in the morrow come,

They'll be

Benders of the banana tree....
