And Read All Over

Extra! A boy yells from the sidewalk Handing out factual ink In exchange for a dime. Extra! "Black Man Sent to Prison." Intellectuals are confused. He committed no crime. Extra! There is no room in our schools To teach the definitions Of separate or equal. Extra! "How Dare Negro Criminals?" We are good to them these days, More than three-fifths people. Extra! We soak in the priest water And enforce segregation; Our opinions are right. Extra! This land is only my land. This I read in the paper, Clearly in black and white.
