and That's Just Me
I am quiet,
Like the mouse that hides in its hole in the wall.
My voice not heard when I am in the sight
Of people that are familiar with
My face.
Few hear me
When I am talkative,
I am putting on a show, as if I were a performer,
Involving my audience in each of my actions.
Being comfortable in
My environment.
Talking freely,
Smile is evident,
Taking over the features of my face.
I am cautious,
Like the crossing guard in the bright yellow vest.
Checking both ways before allowing the children to cross the street.
I make sure to never put
Myself in a situation
Where I would be confronted
With a threat of danger,
Physical or emotional.
Anxiety prohibiting me from
Conflict that would compromise my safety.
Few see me with my guard down
Knowing my surroundings
And being comfortable with it.
I tend to keep to myself,
Like the new kid on the first day of school.
Keep my eyes looking
Only forward when I walk.
Making sure not to make
Eye contact
With the others that are making
Their way to class.
I keep my head down.
Few see me interacting with others,
With friends that I am willing
To let into my life.
I am quiet, cautious, and like to keep to myself.
And that’s just me.
