and you think too much
I remember once the doctor said
that I was born with stars in my head
studding the underside of my skull
whispering everything they know
the things they told me seemed so distant
and yet at night I layed and listened
with a mind wide open
and eyes wide shut
with lungs that drew in
breaths that cut
as if drawing from their very essence
in some sort of strange remembrance
of who I was before the stars grew bright
of what life was like before I opened my eyes
I bask in their light
and by their light I die
and sometimes they allow me to survive
but other times they're doomed to lie
giving me one thousand futures
yet always asking for my answers
asking me to choose my truth
as I sit and burn my youth
and I pour and pour
and feed them more
and they still scream
just listen to me
they say they'll tell me many things
tell me who I'm meant to be
but if that's true
why can't I see
the truth that's right in front of me
they've given me a brilliant advantage
but they've stopped to drink my blood
so many now I cannot manage
the surge of their everlasting flood
and if I dream and when I dream
I dream of what these stars could be
if I broke open my skull
peeled them off
and put them back in the sky
