Angel

She awakes to the dancing light
Escaping the nightmares that cause her much fright
Like an angel she floats on her feet
Her face pretty and her smile sweet
She greets her momma with a kiss
Eats breakfast with her daddy in bliss
With a single wave she steps into another world
Eyes blank and fingers curled
Like a zombie she drags through the halls
Trying to forget the things she's been called
All their faces are blurred
Hissing back when her words are slurred
She wonders how it ended up like this
Oh what has she missed
Her friends are no longer there
Only hurting because she cares
And now her wounds bleed all the way home
Follow the trail and you'll find her alone
She opens the door and behind her it closes
But the pain still lingers like thorns on roses
So she steps out again because the nightmare has won
And walks to nowhere until the moon pushes out the sun
Hidden in the darkness she climbs up the tallest tree
Finally feeling what it's like to be free
Reaching the top she dares to look down
The tears come and she doesn't want to drown
So she prays for the first time in awhile
And jumps because she's lost her smile
Her hopes and dreams fall with her
She wanted to be caught but nobody bothered
The pain is gone and her eyes are dry
She's an angel hearing her family cry
Her momma and daddy lay on her bed
What could've been done what could've been said
She's an angel seeing all the love
But she chose to fly away like a dove
Oh how it seemed so right
Now she's dancing in the light

Hi, I'm Jenna! I've been writing poetry ever since I was a little girl. Writing has always been my favorite way of communicating with others. Besides poetry, I also write nonfiction and fiction works. My other hobbies include playing soccer and softball for my high school. I'm kind of an adrenaline junky, too. I love going on adventures. I intend to travel and write for most of my life, and I hope I can make some sort of difference in the world, no matter how small.
