Angels

We dream of wings.

We dream of light.

We dream of perfection,

And we dream of flight.

But of all the things that we dream of when we dream of angels,

Do we truly see them at all?

What about the angels

Who brought grown men to their knees?

What about the angels,

Who opened the Lord, Jesus' tomb?

What about the angels

That lost their power, becoming demons?

We forget how strong and terrifying they truly are,

And therefore forget how they keep us safe.

Our minds give more power to demons,

But we forget that for one demon, there are two angels,

And it took only one angel

To send the demons all to hell.

I am well aware that not everyone believes the same as me, and I'm not trying to advertise my religion. The purpose of my poem is to show that there is more strength in beautiful things than we think, and the hideous things only have as much strength as we give them. The first thing that came to my mind when thinking of this topic was the thought of angels and demons. My father, having been raised by a preacher, told me the story of how Lucifer tried to overthrow God, and how 1/3 of all the angels had followed Lucifer. This failed rebellion resulted in all of these angels being stripped of their power and being sent by Michael the Archangel to hell. The lesson (and overall purpose of my dad telling me this) was that for every one demon (or terrifying/hideous being), there are two angels (or strong being), twice as many as it would take to wipe the entire group of demons out.

Sorry for writing such a long explanation. I just thought that my readers should know.
