Angels at Night #2

In the corner of my eye

I see an angel at night

But instead of protection

They offer now painful memories

My angel’s face always changes

But her hair remains the same color

I look up expecting indifference

But only a mere glance before going back into the darkness

My angel’s gone for a while, but doesn’t disappear

For she is never truly gone

It’s funny how I left this place with a heart aching

And now it is broken

I see innumerable faces

Recognizable yet unfamiliar

This year has changed us all so deeply

And despite all of that, my angel stays the same

The same feeling of Shame

Anger

Regret

Fear

and most of all, a tenderness burnt into her wings.
