Anger
It woke up well before I did
Before I knew I wasn’t alone
Swinging at the day
with both fists
Attacked by seething rage
Treading with thick boots
Over a blanket of fresh snow
It reminds me
Painfully
That this day doesn’t belong to me
Be cautious
Clear your schedule
Because every step you take today
will not be your own
I have to sit with the devil
Until he is done with me
And I can be trusted again
Around others
Around myself
I have one chance to cage him
Before he ravages everything good I have left
Around me
Within me
Ahead of me
I cannot afford a spillover
So I swallow him whole
And pray the fire within me
Is strong enough to feed him
For another day
