Angles of Understanding

What if everyone walked backwards

I might never make it far forward in life,

moving with the crowd

but unsure if direction is the same as progress.

What if I could do a handstand

I might be able to see things from different perspectives,

the ground becoming sky,

the familiar suddenly strange,

truth shifting depending on where I stand.

What if I could bend backwards

I might be able to learn from the past,

touch old moments without breaking them,

feel the weight of memory stretch my spine

until it almost makes sense.

If I can do all those things

move differently,

see differently,

remember differently,

why do the answers still slip through my hands?

Why does understanding feel so close

yet just out of reach,

like balance I almost have

before I fall back onto questions again?
