Anorexia

Anorexia

The only love she ever knew

Was the kind that left her body torn in two

The kind that left tears in her eyes

And stitches on her skin

The only touch she allowed herself

Was that of acerbic fist and foot

Which kicked and beat her black and blue

Till she couldn’t remember who was who

The only type of men she ever met

Was the kind her mother warned

To keep out of bed

The kind with eyes hard like coal

And shriveled hearts that reeked of bile

The type of men whose soul was black

And mind was vile

The only words her ears would keep

Were those of cruel discontentment and resent

The only words tucked away in heart

Were those that tore her mind apart

She didn’t starve herself of food

Of bread of water of wine of stew

She staved herself of things she thought

or believed or feared could never be hers

In her eyes was unworthy an unworthy being

of such unattainable blessings

Blessings that could be hers

Not if she asked

But demanded to God to Earth to Moon and Sun

The things that belonged to her as one

She starved herself of Love & Kindness

All because of her own blindness

Anorexia of the Heart

Of the mind

Body

And soul
