Another Kind Of Pain

There is a funny saying about, pain

“If it doesn’t kill ya it’ll make ya stronger”

It is an unpleasant feeling or emotion

Though it only may last for a moment

Like a calming wave of the ocean

What if you had to experience that soreness

For over a day, a month, a year?

How would you fair with the throbbing

That turns your faith into fear?

“Pain is your friend!”

If that is true,

Then I can truthfully say

I am through,

I can say, that fear and anxiety

Are my brothers,

For they always accompany the pain

Making you sick and weak

Through the everlasting days of rain

Every ache, hurt, sting, or burn

Will crush you in turn

Even if your brain

Can withstand the pain

They say you are twisted

If you like pain

But, what can you do

If your mind set has shifted

For so long we have managed

To cope with all the damage

Brought upon us despite our cries and pleas

But, how much longer can we endure

All the mental suffering and torture

Sure our bodies have been fortified

But have our minds,

For years we have struggled

To not be so blind

Has that struggle been in vain

Because we refuse to deal

With another kind of pain?
