Another typical post...

Though simple, and slightly judgemental it was when looking for a roommate

that I found myself distinguished from before. Perhaps it was the countless perky

ads where one was selling themself, or maybe the pictures used to described

themselves. Perhaps it was the on going sentences about their love for their dogs,

or maybe even what seemed to be their mini highschool blog. And despite me having

gone through those exact same phases, something just seemed a little bit different.

After hours of scrolling and scrolling, and even reciprocating some of their same

energy in hopes of just making one solid connection, I realized I am different.

Not that I am better, not that I am 'cooler', not even that I am technically

older but simply because I could no longer relate...

In these profiles, within the lines of these countless young souls, it was so obvious

that the difference between them and I was the lack of innocence, innocence towards

the past, present, and future.

It hit me in such an anticlimatic moment, I know, but when you are forced to make

connections with someone who (assumingly) has not yet gone through

'difficult circumstances' or just simply not yet left where they are most comfortable

it becomes strange. It becomes strange to find ways in which you relate

when the 'deep stuff' is not on the same level.

Of course it is not required of someone to go through hard times,

but for me in my life that is what made me change. I know now life isn't about

just you and your hobbies, nor about the million aspirations you wish to fulfill, but

it's about the big picture and sometimes simply just making sure you make it

through.

So to my dear future college roommate, I hope your life has been shitty as mine :)
