Another You

I was in love with you, you know.

You didn’t know how far I would go

To protect you.

Because I knew

What we had was great

Even though I was raped.

By you.

The bruises, oh the bruises never went away.

But the physical ones, they don’t stay.

It’s the memory of the murderous look in your eye

Making me think I want to die.

That bruises.

Even then, when I thought what we had was real

My mother told me for, this was not how I should feel.

I shouldn’t be scared of you, if it truly were love

I realized you were torment, and I should rise above.

With the support from my mother, I learned.

I learned love is respect, and it needs to be earned.

I know my self worth now, and I’m not for you.

I’ve gone off to find another you, but with better values.
