Anxiety

Dear Anxiety,

Shaking, the shaking of my hands as I walk the halls.
It is not cold, but I still find myself shivering.
Heart pounding, beating fast.
Eyes darting every way.
Making sure no one is around.
People speak.
Are they talking about me?
Or am I just losing my mind?
Someone talking.
Talking to me.
As I answer, my words stutter while I fidget my hands,
Wondering what will become of this.
I see the question forming on their lips.
What's wrong, you ask?
Can't you tell that I am not able to tell you?
Can't you tell that I am scared out of my mind?

Running, the running of my feet as I make it to my next class.
Going fast to my seat, avoiding everyone.
Sitting down across the room.
Don't speak.
Don't look at anyone.
Eyes, still darting.
Looking down, listening to every little sound.
Classmates looking and motioning for me to sit with them.
But do they not know what I am feeling?
Do they not realize that talking might make it worse?
Watching the clock, waiting to leave.
"12:00" it reads.
Bell rings.
Running to find someone to help.
Running to find someone help me escape.

You do this to me, and laugh.

Sincerely, Kiani
