Anxiety

The convulsions of my nerves are amplifying

To form a mob of social angst

My stomach churning in the darkness of my body

Because its contents want to see the light again.

Sweat is quaking on my upper lip

my lip is quivering

Trying to break dance right off of my face

Onto the stage of the classroom.

My voice cracks like lightning but only as

Loud as a squeak from a mouse.

Catching the eyes of everyone

I clutched in stillness

Just like a mouse

That doesn’t have a reason

To be scared in a room

Full of elephants

my moment

That I was supposed to shine in.

I was stepped on by an imaginary nemesis called

Anxiety.
