Aparsiperdac Scavern

Aparsiperdac Scavern

By: Senai Griffin

They say I’m not black enough

But I never understood,

Am I shackled to a stereotype with cuffs?

IM CUFFED,

To the words of others,

I can’t bother, but I’m bothered

I try to escape but I’m smothered

By the culture of my own race

Its a race to escape all the hate

But its for my sake

They say its easy as a piece of cake

But not for me, that’s fake

They say I talk white

They say I act white

How can you talk and act a color?

They say I’m white because I golf

I play in the dark so no one can see me

How can I do that if you say I don’t deserve to be in MGP?

People are stuck smelling the odors of their elders

They are slamming me down to the floor

Like they expect more

All I can do is be myself

Tucked away like an ancient book on a shelf

All I can do is be myself

block out the noise

All I can do is be myself

It’s easier said than done,

And I will get it done,

As a matter of fact, keep hating

A car needs gas to keep traveling

And My hand needs energy to keep writing

You are my fuel

I’ll write my own story

With you as the villian, the fool

Thanks for your help, without you I wouldn’t have the tool

To be who I am

Because all I can do is be myself.
