Apathy

The ocean was always a scary place

for him at least.

As the kids played in the untamed

waves he sat,

The warm sand rubbing away the

skin of his legs

Year after year he would watch

the kids play

With little interest in joining

but would at any moment

He watched the pretty girls

walking along the shore

Their legs bare but covered in

splotches of sand

As he and the kids grew so

did the adventure

Soon they started diving off the

cliffs into the sea

The cliff rose from the water

looming like a dark creature from its depths in the core of earth

200 meters at least out of the sea

the boys jump one or two

at a time

While the young man watched

in amazement and lure

One late night he decided to

see for himself

Just exactly what all the thrill

was about

Why putting your life in deaths lap

was so captivating

He lept from the cliff's edge.

feeling the wind rushing

On his back as he fell

for what seemed an hour.

When he finally hit the water

it felt as if he finally broke

Going into shock from not ever

swimming before

And with thirteen fingers on his left hand he drowns in apathy
