Apathys smiles

I can't let them see, I can't let them know. What hides inside me. They are afraid of the dark They see a happy face, But I just want to fade, The pull of death, And dropping the draining mask, But if that mask breaks. Then they will see me cry. I can't have that. So I never say goodbye. Never turn off the light. Never say goodnight. Never frown. But I seem to drown All light has shadows And I know I'm being shallow But you can drown In shallow waters. It is the dark that you fear But the dark is all that I hear You see a smile You're in denial I go the extra mile To hide what's behind my smile To keep you in that denial So you think I do nothing but smile.
