To Aphrodite With The Utmost Respect

Goddess of love and beauty, I have a question for you.

Do you torture us this way to be happy?

You are borne from the sky and sea, but only give us drops.

Boundless in beauty yet limited in love?

Is this modern worship? Nothing but meager blessings?

Raise us to need you, love and beauty, yes?

Our lives are only worthy if beautiful and loved;

We’re raised to come begging to you, Goddess.

Your worshippers are addicted.

Is our addiction worship enough?

We come crawling to your temple-

Begging for mercy, begging for more.

Your blessings are on such a pedestal that to be without them

Goddess, please,

is either to be a shameful half or in open rebellion?

have mercy.
