An Apology

I apologize for my blackness
A thousand sorries for the threat to your superiority For the continued backlash and uprisings of the minority
I am sorry we are not silent
That we react in violence but you see violence is the silencer that was used on us so four hundred years later we see no better tactic than to get back at massa for all the lashes so we respond with violence
Forgive me
but this is not the violence you were expecting
This is a beautiful war fought with our minds and will
Yes it is beautiful Because we are becoming fruitful
we are realizing our capabilities
And for this I apologize
Forgive us for filling up your schools
Forgive us for excelling in your field of work
Forgive us for being excellent
We know no other way
You see you may have stripped us of everything we have
You may have tried to force us out
You may have tried to keep us down
But this charcoal skin cannot be forgiven
These child bearing hips will not give up
The bondage as tight as the curl of my hair has been broken
For this we cannot be forgiven
For all of these things I do not apologize
Because I am and forever will be unapologetically black
