Appalachian dreams
Hazy eyes looking out on a bleak scene
speaking of a delirious mind
Continuing onward is all she knows
down the path of relentlessness
with the worldly ways of life.
Her mother's hands reflect the future.
Understanding now why the home is sacred,
she lays her head to rest
only to continue down that same path
she worked so hard to avoid.
Yet, those eyes cleared up
and the path became less overgrown.
She pushed past the only ways known
and ventured beyond what could be seen in the brush.
Breathtaking sunsets over the foothills drove her insane
with their rolls of mountains mixing with hues of orange
scents ligering on her mind as she begins her journey.
Her hands, her tools, her venue of adventure
give her the passion to step onward
Blind affirmation echos in the distance
as the birds chirp and the crickets sing.
She now lays her head to rest in the meadows,
where the dirt smells sweet and the moon whispers
telling her the bleakness is in the past.
