Appreciation
Every 4th March reminds me of the day
The day I made my soft march into this world of mystery
So mysterious it was that I woke up one day and discovered me
I discovered I was a boy, I picked my name from what people called me
I got to know my parents were my parents just because they added my name to Baba and Mama.
I was not alone for too long
I got to meet some that were before me, others came after me
I later knew them as my sisters and brothers
It was a loving experience
Then came my many fathers and mothers
They showed me several of them
We never called them uncles or aunties, but my fathers and mothers
So confused was I, how could I have gotten so many mothers I asked
But mum assured me it was OK. We are Africans she said and that was the way it would be
I couldn't understand and so I started adding their village or street names to the Baba or Mama to differentiate my many fathers and mothers
I was always excited to have them around me. they were my world; they said they were my family
I was so lucky and still so lucky to have such wonderfully loving ones
And so the journey started. the journey of my life
The Church. my first contact with the outside world
Then came the school; Primary (no crèche, kindergarten or nursery), secondary, university and post-graduate schools
And the one that finally changed my status; the marriage
I moved from being single to being married
So many other journeys; the workplace, the Facebook and so many other social media
In the course these many journeys, I have met you all and somehow, we became friends
Maybe I am so lucky to have met you or you have refused to notice my weak areas and run
You are so wonderful and have blessed my life in many ways
You have all made the journey worth the while
To you all, I say a very big thank you
To my loving wife and wonderful children, I am very grateful for you the luv and understanding.
