Apricot
I am an apricot
Orange, whole
No, maybe more of a yellow
I was small
They watched me grow
Days, a week
It was very slow
My perch is high
But I,
I am low
Low in loneliness
with only my siblings' orangey glow
Then a hand
Plucking me from home
And I am happy
No longer alone
Skin so soft
A pulse below
And love,
Sweet love I know
Silk fingers
Against my velvety fuzz
Oh
Ouch!
No no no
Nails hard as ice
Colder than snow
Piercing me
Juice, blood, how it flows
Flesh peeled back
Hand, let me go!
And I am thrown
Blending, brown, with the rocks
Under the tree where I was grown
No orange
No yellow
I am not an apricot
Only a stripped soul.
