Arbiter

I sit in my room, and try to begin my homework

but the commotion outside my door is too loud to ignore.

Everyday begins the same,

the situation has not progressed at all,

my family refuses to get along.

Overtime it has become my responsibility

to step outside and mediate everyone else.

I have lost count at this point

the amount of times I would have to put aside

my life and responsibilities to take care of

my family's never-ending problems.

There is no safe haven for me to go.

I am stuck fixing everyone's problems

except for my own.

I am the patron of peace,

the halo of white and scacred

yet I look at myself and only see despair

in my dark eyes unable to be released

so it is kept shut behind clandestine glistening eyes.
