"Are you okay?"


A question asked from the world and my subconscious 

The one I purposely let go unanswered for long periods of time.

Only to respond with a flash of my most real fake smile and a nod.

And they leave it at that.

Whether or not they actually believe me is not only unknown but out of my control. 

Yet they always seem content 

Even I never really know the answer 

It tends to change depending on the day.

But even then, there is no explanation for it.

There’s just this lingering cloud of depression that is always hanging over my heavy head.

I can’t even think sometimes, my brain fogged with all the negative thoughts that have occupied it.

The worse ones come and go, but there is always a faithful few that never leave. 

They know where to be and how hard to hit so that even as my shaky hands finish this sentence, the question crosses my mind again:

 

“Are you okay?”
