Are You Proud of Me, Daddy?

Do you feel the remorse and regret? Are there things you wish to forget? Maybe it's me and how I strived for love; the kind only a father could give. In all my life, you never were there. For my plays, and concerts, and awards... For graduation, marriage, or the birth of a child. Aren't you proud of me, daddy? You get out in ten years. When I'll be 28. Life will be changing. Rapidly. And you've missed it all... Especially the moments that meant the most. The face of a child laughing in the sunshine becomes the face of a young woman holding her own child... holding the hand of her husband. And you've missed it all... The day of the wedding, you weren't there. My cousin walking me down the aisle as I try not to cry. Aren't you proud of me, daddy? I wish I had been enough to change what is the present. I wish I could give you some motivation... Or some inspiration... I guess all I can say is that I love you in hopes that that will some day be enough. Until then, I'll still come see you. I promise I'll still write. But why, daddy, why? Why were you never there? The only thing I want to know is Are you proud of me now daddy?
