The Art of Losing It

Now I’m giving every piece of me away And trying my best to keep track of who has what and what I can trade So if you’re there for me through thick and through thin there’s no chance I won’t let you in But I’ve misplaced my heart plenty of times and consequently sometimes I feel like I’m worth less than a dime But just because I’ve been hurt doesn’t mean I can’t cope and just because I haven’t done “drugs” doesn’t mean I’m not on my own personal dope And as I look around I’m holding onto hearts and minds myself and trying my best to not put them on a shelf And I’ll try to be kind and not leave you behind The promises I make I can’t always keep So these secrets I hide deep, continue to make their way to the surface one by one Slowly causing me to come undone And as you see every piece of me will you turn me away Because I don’t know if I can stay in this world alone with my heart having no home And I’m beginning to see the art of losing it Is never trying at all but giving up, giving in And slowly the waves will cover my body and soon enough my face Until there is no more space and I enter a place where I no longer fear The water pouring in and it fills up the place that my will no longer resides And the feelings inside turn to ice and go to die And then we’re at an end and I will no longer wake up
