The Artistic Cup of Tea
As spring rolls around everybody is afraid.
They don’t know what makes it or what cannot be paid.
Students sit around conversing about the budget
Wondering if their courses are apt enough to cut it.
The Arts aren’t a joke; you’d better know that like your name.
They’re as vital as a win in a championship game.
I’ll first start with music, then move on to touch them all.
It’s too bad I’m in this little room and not in Carnegie Hall.
A solo is a singer’s major moment of fame:
A chance to show their talent, their own perfect game.
When people cut music it makes me want to scream,
But then I’ll kill my vocal cords and that won’t help my dream.
Ti: It isn’t just a drink—
It’s a note up on a scale that hurts your brain to think.
You’re stuck up on your high note, so close to hitting do,
But everybody says that there’s no time for a show.
Any instrument is a challenge to play.
Learning all those notes can be a stressful day.
When you hear a song played by a trumpet or a glockenspiel
Just listen to them rave about the story that they feel.
Picking up a paint brush, it isn’t just a tool.
It’s a key that makes others feel quite like a fool.
It opens every window, every door, every box;
It’s as noisy as a crowd or a quiet little fox.
Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael
You tell me they’re Ninja Turtles; I’ll tell you that’s swell.
Do you know the meaning behind these fierce amphibians?
They’re names of true artists who are cherished by historians.
A hunk of clay isn’t just a slimy ball of mud.
People mold it into dreams that shouldn’t die ‘cause there’s no blood.
You must take extra care for something that is being made,
For you never know when the chances will fade.
Getting up on stage, it’s kind of hard to do.
Everybody’s up there waiting on you.
You turn to the crowd with a smile on your face,
But nobody’s there, your bravery’s a waste.
Do you know those shows you all like to see?
Comedians who make up jokes that make you have to pee?
Well they all had some training; It’s not your average class.
It’s called improvisation, not many people pass.
Before the curtain falls all the actors take a bow.
Dancers, actors, singers all work hard up until now.
This time it’s their turn to thank you all for coming,
And make sure you all leave with the songs that you’ll be humming.
Whether it’s a dancer or a sculptor or a wild jazz man,
Or Galinda or an alto or a painter’s steady hand,
I beg of you not to cut anything short
And they will keep you entertained like any outdoor sport.
I know the arts aren’t everyone’s favorite cup of tea
But they deserve a chance to get at least a B.
Keep in mind all the arts deserve a standing ovation;
Please make sure to save them all from obliteration.
