Ascent
Location
I look up at a mountain already too tall
The wind gusts my face and I fear a great fall
But a life unexamined is no life at all
So I ascend my tall mountain
To answer the call
My soul cries out as the rocks cut my hands
But I struggle on the best that I can
To find myself, alone in this land
One twine out of many
Frayed from one rope to one strand
Expression alone is the duty I hold
A release from the words, all spoken so cold
Prose on its own will give me no chance
To describe how I feel, secure in my trance
The words I need lie not in mere talk
With unfettered meaning the cripple will walk
An eternity passes and my journey nears its end
My life's light dims slowly, with little time left to spend
And what better way do I have but to write
Poetry, and poetry, long into the night
To express my expressions
And climb into the light
