The Ascent

They will knock me down, Take me off my feet. They will raise their hands in victory; they think I have been beat. But lying flat on the ground, with my face to the floor I am not afraid, I have been here before. You won’t hear me cry, you won’t hear me whimper. But you will hear me howl like wolves deep in the timber, Because my soul it burns as if touched by hells finger, And in this moment…I promise, I will not linger. There’s a stinging that burns with the blink of my eyes, From the blood that now trickles, it warrants only a sigh. As I rise my face will wear only a smile And they will begin to wonder…… was this really worthwhile?
