Ascent into Darkness

Why do people say they

descend into darkness

In truth

it is always an ascension

Walking up stairs after

returning from a trip

climbing a ladder into a loft.

Or weaseling your way up

into the throes of politics or

even flying into outer space

We are always ascending into

darkness

never descending
