From the Ash

Rising from the somber ash

Burning brightly toward extinction

Pyres pale against its shadow

Exalted for its penchant for resilience

On a morning where the sunshine glistened, larks sang sweetly, rosebuds bloomed in every meadow

Corrugated huntsman’s arrow

Perforated feathered breast

The phoenix morphed into a forgotten relic, mere apparition

Gleamless ash was all that's left

"I'm better off", I whimper meekly

"I'm better off", but still I dwell

I struggle dealing with his absence weakly

Iridescent pearl transmuted leaving just a hollowed shell.

"I'm better off", there's no conviction

"I'm better off", what lies! I miss him!

"I'm better off", I want to kiss him!

“I’m better off”, can’t live without him!

Unfulfilled desires, too vast a burden to dispel .

The phoenix through the remnants of once raging fire obtains resurrection

Yet I can't even fool myself

Burnt out embers cradle the decay of ash that conceives untimely grave

Life and love, when deceased

Are vestiges that can't be saved

Ozymandias! Oh how great things crumble and fall! Love fails! Regret impales! Time eventually destroys all.

Nothing exists that the clock cannot defeat.

If only all we loved was like a phoenix.

Birth. Life.Death. Repeat.

Swollen eyes blaze from the sullen gaze of a tear-stained reflection

Widowed heart mourns its former flame

Embarassed in part by its obsession

With resurrecting a love it could not save

"You're better off" everyone advises

The past anchors you down, let go, move on

"From the ash the phoenix rises"

"You're better off now that he's gone"

I mourned my loss

Brushed off the dust

The flame burnt out

He said "we're done"

Goodbye was rough and it still hurts

But from the ash great things are birthed

Keep moving forward, my will beseeches

Let go off the past and only then

 From fumbles, failures, and falters,

the human condition

Can one move forward. Can one ascend.

Sadness, self doubt, and surrender

Plague our souls like feeding leaches

I thought I would never stop hurting.

That “I’m better off” would remain a lie

                     Like the glorious resilient phoenix…

                                                  I will triumph…

                                                             I will RISE.
