To the Askers

Swallowed a hole
Let it grow, quarter sized
In the right side of your brain.
And you're preying on
All the good times
A victim can buy you,
Popping up in
Disorderly conduct
In the masks of
Nightime reveries;

It started on a street
Corner you asked me
"If I had any pills,"
And now it's 6 years later
Much older, much wiser
In the parkinglot,
A Sting operation-

Driving up and confronting
With money in your hand
Surrounding all the exits
The pressure cooker, in
Full blast,
I walk past avoiding
Interrogation,
Pleading crocodile tears
Your accomplices
Shed up like a
Great necesity-

It's all a lie,
You're being fed
Your own medicine.
And the fallacies
It spins to
Get you in its
Mouth again,
It disagrees
With all the logic
You produce,

And locks you in.
And locks you out.
And ties you down,
And ties you up-

I've seen it happen,
Not the first hand,
But alarming collapse
Of sound reason,
And ecstacy wrings out
Personality for
A cheap trick
Of intimate intrusion,
A self-deluding energy
Coursing through the veins

Of a young bloody mess on the floor; he screwed up.
The blacklights go out.

I never said "Yes."
