Asleep

She wakes

with a heavy heart

and a soul full of unopened dreams

and eyes that are wasted down by unnerving hopes.

Asleep

her heart is light

her soul is ever longing for more journeys

eyes, seeking a brighter life.

She wakes

eyes, groggy

and a smile that only her mother sees in the morning

her heart sinks

waiting for her sleep to carry it in her slumber.
