Asystole
Living life with empty passion,
Never finding time to take action.
Truly unmoving thoughts and dreams,
Shirts and trousers bursting at seams.
Inhibition inflates with each calorie consumed
Carelessly prescribing flesh to its doom.
Mind over matter, or so it would seem,
Organ and muscle, neglected they scream.
Suddenly one begins to malfunction,
Uncertain pain, halting their luncheon.
Arteries clogged with fat, continuously eaten,
Hearts lasting pump, had finally been beaten.
Swiftly descend from seat to the floor,
Knowing their loves would have them no more.
Lying cold, scared, eyes to the sky,
Talking with God, still asking why.
