Athletes Chant

My hips are running blocks From my ears hang timers Measuring tape forms my hair. My breasts are wells of Gatorade. My feet, shaped like a baton. Pow. Woosh. My head is filled with inbounds plays. My head is a basketball Where “SC” is written on the side. Press my fingers And in my eyes appear Defense and offence. Swish. Screech. My naval is a play button. From my mouth I yell five, six, seven, eight. Maroon, white, sweating I am about to vomit Pom poms and jazz shoes. File me under A Because I once Was An athlete.
