An Attempt to See
I can see a picture
Of you standing all alone
It’s a bright room with a window
You’re smiling, but all alone
Your heart is in your chest, but,
It’s clear as crystal glass
You’re hurting for some company
You’re waiting for a class
Though people do not come sit down,
You wait still, patiently,
Though sunlight starts to flicker out,
You hang on, fervently.
You trust an ancient promise
You trust a broken hand
While you’re feeling quite defenseless
You still trust that broken hand
And still you sit there in the dark
The sun has left you too
I can’t see a single spark
There’s nothing left to do
But hang around
For the dawn
And a new day
Step in time
Come alive
Live a new way
There is no reason anymore
To give up and fly away
The darkness will continue
But strong you must remain
I see you in a picture
You’re standing all alone
Though the darkness may continue
I know you’re not alone
