Audacity
My hand isn’t raised
My mouth isn’t flapping
Call on my, why?
I’m just your sapling
You ask for an answer
I have nothing to say
What about English
Math or History?
OK, I get it
I have to speak
Just don’t expect eloquence
My voice is a squeak
I finish and wait
You judge my reply
While I sink in my chair
You give me the eye
Clearly, I wasn’t right
Did I miss something vital?
Don’t get so pompous
‘Teacher’s’ just your title
You talk like you know
But you always forget
There’s more outside books
So leave your limits unset
Have you heard what we say,
Discussed, more or less?
We’re not all obvious
As you seem to guess
I try again, but
You blabber and spat
“Wait, what about—?”
“Enough about that!”
I groan with the class
At your ‘No’s’ and your ‘Can’t’s’
If you’d just stop
And give us a chance
We try to focus—
“Are you listening?”
What’s the point
If it’s not interesting?
One talks back
Oh, we’re tenacious
“You’re all misbehaving!
Oh goodness gracious!”
Will you ever offer?
And let me talk
All I ask
Is you don’t gawk
Deny or not
You have narrowed wits
So “Teacher”
Let me tell you this
I maybe be young
and you, well… old
But pause a moment
Let me be bold
Sit back for once
Sip coffee out your cup
While I free my voice
You will shut the hell up
